RULES AND CONDITION GENERAL Festival Film Dokumenter FFD is an annual event held by Forum Film Dokumenter, a non-profit organization based in Yogyakarta, focusing on documentary film research and archiving, as well as film appreciation for educational purposes. In 2020, Festival Film Dokumenter’s Call For Entries opens for Competition Program. There are four categories open for the Competition Program. First, Feature-Length Documentary, which opens for Indonesian and foreign filmmakers alike duration above 40 minutes. Second, Indonesian Feature-Length Documentary for filmmakers of Indonesian nationality with the minimum 40 minutes duration. Third, Short Documentary, for Indonesian filmmakers with film of short duration under 40 minutes. And fourth, Student Documentary, which targets Indonesian students from junior to high school. From all submissions submitted, FFD will choose several films to be nominated for the final. Furthermore, the selected films that will be discussed again by the invited judges to determine the best films that are entitled to get the award Best International Long Documentary, Best Indonesian Long Documentary, Best Short Documentary, Best Student Documentary. SUBMISSION DEADLINE Film submission and shipment for all categories will be closed on August 5th, 2020 at WIB GMt+7 postmarked. SUBMISSION FEE Every category is free of submission fee. USAGE PERMISSION Film submitted to the festival will be archived by Forum Film Dokumeter for non-profit activities and educational purposes. Filmmakers will be informed for any activities involving the film outside this year’s festival timeline. Any screenings will be done with prior permission from the filmmaker. FILM MATERIAL POLICY COPYRIGHTS It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to secure clearance of copyright holders of any copyrighted materials included within submitted film. FFD will not be held responsible for unauthorized inclusion of any copyrighted materials within or relating to submitted film. FFD reserves the right to disqualify any films with unauthorized inclusion of copyrighted materials. PRE-SELECTION Festival accepts two kinds of film format online screener and file in physical container. The physical container can be in flash disk or hard disk, and must be sent to the festival’s office check the address in “SHIPPING” and accepted by the festival no later than one 1 week after the submission closes. Every link with password preferably for online screener must remain active until the festival ends. To avoid re-sending film that passed the pre-selection process, it is recommended that applicants send their works in official selection format. MEDIA KIT & PUBLICATION Applicants are expected to enclose materials if any for publication needs. Works selected must authorize the Festival to use any clips within film with maximal duration in 3 minutes, still images, or any other materials included, for online or offline festival promotion in catalogue, website, and other kinds of publication. SCREENING FEE Applicants are expected to understand that Festival Film Dokumenter does not cover screening fee if the film is selected as the finalists of the Competition Category. About the workshop Film Criticism Collective Workshop will provide training in critical framework and incisive writing about documentary cinema, while offering immersion in the lively atmosphere of an international film festival. Participants will also attend film screenings during the festival to later; write about them for regular tasks and discussions with mentors and fellow participants. Chris has written and edited several books on cinema and has contributed to numerous anthologies and journals. He has organized or served as a mentor for film criticism workshops at YIDFF, the Berlinale, Melbourne International Film Festival, the International Film Festival of Kerala, and Salamindanaw Asian Film Festival. Adrian Jonathan Pasaribu, born in Pasuruan in 1988, is the co-founder of Cinema Poetica — a collective of film critics, journalists and activists in Indonesia. Established in 2010, Cinema Poetica focuses on knowledge production and distribution as a response to the lack of film literature in Indonesia. The collective publishes their works in and regularly organizes film criticism workshops for students. Adrian has developed film programs for several film festivals and screening spaces in Indonesia. From 2007 to 2010, he worked as the program manager of Kinoki, an alternative screening space in Yogyakarta. Since then Adrian has developed film programs for several screening spaces and film festivals, namely Festival Film Dokumenter, Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival, ARKIPEL International Documentary & Experimental Film Festival, and Singapore International Film Festival. Currently, he is researching about the historical unknowns of Indonesian cinema. About Film Criticism Collective Founded in Japan in 2015, the Film Criticism Collective is intended to develop and encourage film criticism, to facilitate interaction among critics of different countries, and to make the writing of East Asian critics more accessible in English. The main activity of FCC is the Film Criticism Workshop, which is held every two years at the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, with the support of the Japan Foundation Asia Center. FCC also held a Film Criticism Workshop at Salamindanaw Asian Film Festival in General Santos, Philippines, in 2016. Festival Film Dokumenter 2018 FFD officially starts on Wednesday, December 5th, 2018. Located at Societet Militair Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, on its 17th year, the annual festival opens with the screening of Beautiful Things Giorgio Ferrero, 2017, which captures the story of workers in areas that are difficult to reach human life. This agenda also enlivened by musician Umar Haen. This year, FFD decided not to raise a specific theme for the festival. It is done in hope to revive the initial spirit of FFD in observing the development of documentaries as a social reflection and educational media; Recording The Remnants, Searching for The Unseen, Finding Insight. FFD 2018 will be held in eight days, starts from December 5th, 2018 until December 12th, 2018. FFD is held in two venues, including Taman Budaya Yogyakarta and IFI-LIP Yogyakarta.
